Montessori Summer Fun at Home
Often times parents worry about their children not using their brains enough during the summer. We, however, know that in Montessori, children are always using their brains! Even when children think they are just playing with beans by scooping and pouring them or scooping and dumping water outside, they are using their brains! Children in the Montessori environment are continually stimulating their brains. In the summer especially, we focus on exploration outdoors. Whether it is an experiment with the life cycle of an insect or planting a garden, we ensure the children find something that interests them and let them have the freedom to explore.
Finding the balance between learning at school and home can be a struggle sometimes. I found a fun list of activities that will help parents get involved with the fun learning process at home. These activities are just the beginning! Use these few ideas and ask your children what they want to explore. For example, my son loves animals right now! A trip to the zoo catches his attention and we read the signs to him so he can learn more about each animal. You could even make the trip a scavenger hunt to find animals!
Montessori does not need to stop at school. There are many fun things to incorporate at home! Have fun together this summer!!
